I Wish I Were the Wind
A poem by Linda Ellis — at times, I wish I were the wind, traveling where I please, soaring over hills and flowers and mingling with the trees.
At times, I wish I were the wind
traveling where I please
soaring over hills and flowers
and mingling with the trees.
Invisible, and weightless
yet, powerful as steel --
changing course without reason,
depending how I feel.
With gales and gusts and breezes
turning, twisting free…
nothing ever stops the wind,
and nothing would stop me.
No anchor, tie or tether
could cause me to be pinned
for no boundaries or borders
can encircle the wind.
I would glide o'er the rivers,
and with the sun's brilliant beams,
create ripples in still waters
of the lakes and the streams.
With the earth and universe,
I would share a connection,
delighted, as I watch the leaves
dance to my direction.
No responsibilities or burdens,
a new location every day.
Oh, if I could be the wind,
I would fly so far away.
