I Am Love
A poem by Linda Ellis — I am not a possession to be shown or displayed. My worth cannot be measured, calculated or weighed.
I am not a possession
to be shown or displayed.
My worth cannot be measured,
calculated or weighed.
I am often elusive,
yet found everywhere.
I can never be seen,
yet you know I am there.
I am not a weapon,
a knife or grenade,
but I can shatter your world
and cut like a blade.
I am an essence
you can't run from or hide
once I capture your heart
and you feel me inside.
I have no mass,
still I'm true and I'm real --
invisible, weightless,
yet stronger than steel.
I am gentle enough
to touch all your senses,
yet possess enough power
to dissolve your defenses.
I permeate earth
in the waves of the seas.
I twist with the wind
and I flow with the breeze.
I am a gamble
with losses and gains --
a conflicting concoction
of pleasures and pains.
I am a mystery
that defies explanation,
a meandering journey
of unknown destination.
I am indefinite.
I will carry on
long after the time
my recipient's gone.
There's no way to describe
how I make you feel.
I'm magic. I'm special.
I'm scary. I'm real.
I am the substance
of lyrics and verse
and promising vows of
"for better, for worse."
I am more priceless
than silver and gold.
I am free. I am kind.
I am yours to behold.
It's been said, it is foolish
to pursue love, high or low.
Suffice to say: "Friends,
when you find me, you'll know."
