The One in Front of You

A poem by Linda Ellis — basically, we have one life which is always split in two: the part you have already lived and the one in front of you.

The One in Front of You

We analyze this life too much.
We waste our precious time.
So, here's a simple answer
written out in rhyme:

Basically, we have one life
which is always split in two:
the part you have already lived
and the one in front of you.

With options rather narrow,
why should you be confused --
reliving and regretting days
that you've already used?

Where you're going matters
much more than where you've been,
so, focus on the here and now
instead of there and then!

Time steals our days and hours
before we recognize the theft,
and we live each day not knowing
how much we may have left.

It continues marching onward
disregarding our objection,
so, we need to heed the lesson
and move in the same direction.

Regarding the two parts of life,
my advice is very clear:
leave behind the one you've lived
and live the one that's here!
